Purple flag status
Norwich has been recognised for having a safe, fun and well-managed city centre at night. In 2017, it was awarded Purple Flag status — a national award that shows the city offers a great experience after dark.
Managing the night-time economy
The city council works with the police and other groups to reduce problems caused by the night-time economy. Together, they’ve introduced several measures:
- Road restrictions between 11pm and 6am on Cathedral Street, St Faiths Lane and Recorder Road to reduce noise.
- Signs reminding people to respect residents at night.
- New CCTV cameras on Cathedral Street and Bank Plain/Queen Street.
- More police presence in busy night-time areas like Prince of Wales Road.
