Nestled beside the gentle flow of the River Yare, Eaton Common spans over 6.2 hectares of peaceful, marshy grassland. This serene green space offers a rich mosaic of habitats - from neutral grasslands and tall herbs to pockets of broadleaved woodland - making it a quiet retreat for nature lovers and casual explorers alike.
Once crisscrossed by ditches, the landscape now features shallow depressions that hint at its watery past. In summer, the area is grazed by cattle, helping to maintain its natural character. When grazing isn’t possible, the grass is thoughtfully mown to preserve access and biodiversity. The woodland areas are left largely untouched, allowing nature to take its course.
Keep an eye out for marshland flora and, if you're lucky, signs of otters—these elusive creatures are believed to frequent the area.
A mown grass path loops around the site, perfect for a gentle stroll. Access is via a kissing gate, and for those looking to extend their walk, Eaton Common connects with Marston Marsh via the scenic Marston-Eaton link path, which skirts the edge of Eaton Golf Course.
