  • start early – dig, tidy and plant straight away
  • don’t burn waste in summer – only burn approved organic materials
  • use weed control wisely – mulch or plastic is okay, but no carpetkeep noise to a minimum if attending

Allotment best practices

Allotments are a great way to meet others and share growing tips.

To keep things friendly:

  • mark your plot clearly and stick to the boundaries
  • talk to neighbours about fences, sheds, or anything that might affect them
  • keep your plot tidy and weed-free
  • trim trees that might block sunlight from nearby plots
  • be responsible for your visitors – keep noise down and stay on your plot
  • visit your allotment shop or speak to your site rep if you have one. They can help with questions or pass concerns to the council.
